Roof Replacement and Wildfire Hardening in Mandeville Canyon

This Mandeville Canyon project was a full wildfire hardening retrofit, addressing nearly every major point of ember and radiant heat vulnerability on the home.

We started with a complete roof replacement using a Class A fire-rated shingle system, one of the most effective upgrades for reducing ignition risk in wildfire-prone hillside neighborhoods. From there, we enclosed the home's original exposed eaves, a common weak point where embers and radiant heat can penetrate into the roof structure. This involved adding a fascia board treated with intumescent paint, which expands under heat to form a protective barrier, along with Hardie backer board for a layer of noncombustible protection. New gutters and gutter guards were installed to eliminate debris buildup, a frequent fuel source for embers. Finally, all existing vents were replaced with intumescent, fire-rated vents, closing off one of the most common ember entry points into the home's interior and attic spaces.
